Greater Fatra

The Greater Fatra is one of the most beautiful mountains in Slovakia, situated between central and north-western Slovakia, within the Liptov, Orava, Turiec and Horehronie regions. It is bordered by the Low Tatras to the east, Kremnické vrchy to the south, Lesser Fatra to the north and Turčianska kotlina (basin) to the west. Its highest peak is Ostredok (1,592 m). With an area of 40, 371 hectares, it was in 2002 declared a national park - Národný park Veľká Fatra (NPVF). Diversified and almost unspoiled nature of Carpathian type has been preserved here. Beech and spruce forests, with a network of hiking trails, create pleasing environment for moderate hikes and trips. It is a popular tourist area: in the summer for its beautiful valleys (Ľubochnianska, Belianska, Blatnická and Žarnovická) and cultural-historical monuments (Vlkolínec, Harmanecká jaskyňa), in the winter for its ski resorts (Jasenská dolina, PARK SNOW Donovaly, Skipark – Ružomberok).

  • Ski resort Skalka Arena

    Skalka Arena ski resort is located in the Kremnické vrchy near the medieval royal mining town of Kremnica. The ski resort is directly below Skalka mountain. Skalka is the seventh highest peak of the Kremnické vrchy.

  • Jasenská Valley

    JASENSKÁ DOLINA is one of the best known valleys in the Veľká Fatra Mountain range. It lies 12 km to the south-east of Martin, next to the village Belá-Dulice. It is well-known and popular with tourists all the year round.

  • PARK SNOW DONOVALY

    Excellent skiing conditions with great slalom, downhill, cross-country skiing or snowboarding is becoming more attractive and freeskiing. Ski slopes at an altitude of 900 - 1361 m with a total length of 11 km are technically snowed and always perfectly groomed for skiers of all ages.

  • Donovaly

    The village of Donovaly with the largest ski resort in the Low Tatras - PARK SNOW – Donovaly, lies in the western part of the Low Tatras mountain range. There are more than 11 km of regularly groomed ski trails and 17 slopes of which over 7 km are covered with artificial snow.
