Liptov’s natural and cultural treasures along with the many recreational facilities attract a lot of tourists. Fans of ski touring, rock climbing, paragliding, rafting, golf, paintball, cycling and other sports really enjoy this region. Visitors can choose from many hiking trails, because this region is surrounded by the highest of Slovakian mountain ranges: the High Tatras, Choč Mountains, the Western Tatras, the Low Tatras and the Great Fatra. Fans of cyclotouring will find Liptov ideal for cycling as there is approximately 500 km of marked cycling routes. Liptov offers countless skiing slopes for all categories of skiing. In addition to downhill skiing, the region is great for ski touring and cross-country skiing. There are several well known ski resorts in Liptov – Jasná Low Tatras resort and SKIPARK Ružomberok (Malinô Brdo) in Demänovská Valley, Žiar in Žiar Valley, Čertovica in Vyšná Boca or Opalisko resort in Závažná Poruba near Liptovský Mikuláš.
